Walking into Philosophy Club you hear a buzz of people discussing, agreeing and occasionally yelling. The student leaders guiding the conversation to a friendly, productive place. The members of the club express their ideas and opinions freely and there is always a rebuttal or chance to dig deeper.
I am a leader of Philosophy Club and we are a discussing based club running every Wednesday night. Everyone is always welcome as the more people that come to club the better and more diverse the discussions. Often we discuss topics that defy societal norms. For example, one of my favourite discussions was an animal ethics topic. We talked about all the different implications of owning animals and developed some incredible ideas.
A common practice of clubs at George School is fundraising through merchandise. Because clubs are student-led we often have to create our own funds for events and additional expenses. At Philosophy Club we sell baseball caps every year. Often at events sponsored by other clubs like Georgecella (a music festival). Every George School club is unique and they all have different niches. Philosophy Club provides excellent insight into the pensive side of GS.
