After splitting into three groups, kids spent the morning helping at each of three schools. They gardened, assisted the teacher as needed, and they started a room renovation.
In the afternoon we visited at Elim Night Shelter—a safe haven for the homeless, particularly those in recovery for addiction and those suffering from chronic diseases. While I am not sure the kids felt like they “did” much, I hope they were able to appreciate the value of their time and company to people living in a small space with the same folks day in and day out. They chatted, played games, and learned about issues of homelessness in Cape Town.
