Greetings from France!

Hello, everyone!

We had  an excellent flight after a slow and snowy ride to the airport. We left Newark around 11:30 p.m. and arrived in Heathrow around 10:30 a.m. local time, with three hours of free time for lunch and snacks before our seventy-five minute flight to Basel. It was fun to walk around the airport checking out the deals, and the food was actually pretty good!

Once we arrived in Basel around 4:15 p.m., we went through customs (getting our Swiss stamp at customs!) then we waited a long time for all the luggage. Magically, as we left the area, we rolled our luggage into the crowds, finding our families anxiously awaiting us!! It was so cool, and we exchanged many “bises” on the cheeks. After all these weeks of messaging, we finally got to meet our host families. It felt so good to meet them – they were smiling and super excited to greet us. Now, it’s FRENCH for the next few days!!

We will spend the entire weekend with our host family on our own and meet up with one another on Monday morning at the high school, where we will depart for our service projects. It’s great weather (50 degrees) here and blue skies.

All is good. Vive l’Alsace!!

Cheri and Marie-Laure
